Ladysmith Black Mambazo

  • Description: Performance by Grammy-winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

7th Annual Montgomery County History Conference

  • Where: 9601 Medical Center Dr., Rockville.
  • When: Saturday, Jan. 26, 8:30 a.m.
  • Description: Seventh annual Montgomery County History Conference—A day filled with informative sessions on local history topics of interest to researchers, historians, students and teachers, the general public and the generally curious; professional development for volunteers and staff at history organizations.
  • Cost: $50.

Used Book Sale—Twinbrook Public Library

  • Where: Twinbrook Library202 Meadow Hall Dr., Rockville.
  • When: Saturday, Jan. 26, 10 a.m.
  • Description: Many books and VHS movies from which to select; $1 bag of books during the final hour of the sale on Saturday (2 to 3 p.m.).
  • Cost: Free. 

Roslyn Logsdon: People and Places

  • Where: VisArts155 Gibbs St., Rockville.
  • When: Friday, Jan. 25, through Thursday, Jan. 31, noon to 5 p.m.
  • Description: VisArts presents the exhibition Roslyn Logsdon: “People and Places,” on view in the Common Ground Gallery.
  • Cost: Free. 

After the Work Week Jazz Music

  • Where: 7926 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring.
  • When: Friday, Jan. 25, 6 p.m.
  • Description: Happy hour at Nectar Lounge: dinner, drinks, dancing, live band from 6 to 9 p.m.
  • Cost: $5.

Farm Fresh Markets

  • Where: Georgia Avenue and Ellsworth Drive, Silver Spring.
  • When:  Saturday, Jan. 26, 9 a.m.
  • Description: Farm fresh goats' milk cheeses, tree and field fruit, vegetables, honey, pastries, meat, pies, preserves, salsas, eggs, breads and more. 
  • Cost: Free.

A Commedia Romeo and Juliet

The Tempest on stage

  • Where: 10123 Connecticut Ave., Kensington.
  • When: Jan 10 through 14, 17, 19, 20, 24, 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Description: Shakespeare's The Tempest, presented by the Pallas Theatre Collective and directed by Tracey Elaine Chessum.
  • Cost: $20.

Music and Motion Class for Children: Rock 'N Roll

Cat Adoption Open House

  • Where: 12 Park Ave., Gaithersburg.
  • When: Friday, Jan. 25, 6 p.m.
  • Description: Volunteer nonprofit cat shelter in Olde Towne Gaithersburg invites visitors to enjoy getting to know cats and kittens in their shelter. Special promotion: $50 per cat.
  • Cost: Free.

Toyland

  • Where: 7300 MacArthur Blvd., Glen Echo.
  • When: Friday, Jan. 18, through Sunday, Feb. 10, on weekends: 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m.
  • Description: The Center for Exploration of the Puppet Arts presents Toyland. Recommended for children in pre-kindergarten through grade four. Running time: 40 minutes.
  • Cost: $10.

Wake Up, Brother Bear

  • Where: Imagination Stage, 4908 Auburn Ave., Bethesda.
  • When: Friday, Jan. 18, through Sunday, Feb. 3. See website for times.
  • Description: Children are invited to take part in a play based on a best-selling children’s book, Wake Up, Brother Bear. Recommended for ages 1 through 5.
  • Cost: $10.
