Basement Fire Leaves Germantown Family Homeless

MCFRS: Damage surpasses $500,000

A basement fire Friday displaced a Germantown family and caused more than a half million dollars in damage, according to Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service.

At around 4:15 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a house in the 11700 block of Scarlet Leaf Circle where they battled a fire that began in the basement and spread to the home's first floor, fire officials said in a weekly incident report.

No one was injured in the blaze, but two adults and five children were left homeless, said Assistant Chief Scott Graham, an MCFRS spokesman.

The fire caused $500,000 damage to the home’s structure and $150,000 damage to the home’s contents, according to the incident report.

Graham was unable to provide further details when reached by Patch on Monday.
