With his stack of chips dwindling, a pair of queens in his hand and only 16 players remaining at the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event, the time had come for Derwood's Percy Mahatan to make a move.

Mahatan called an all-in bet by Robert Salaburu who revealed two pair—nines and sevens—and received no help from the river (the last community card), knocking him out of the $10,000 buy-in, No Limit Texas Hold'em tournament seven spots shy of a berth at October's final table, according to Poker News Global.

The 16th place finish earned Mahatan a $369,026 payout.

One Maryland player, Laurel's Greg Merson, survived the tournament's field of 6,598 players to advance to the final table, dubbed the "October 9."

Merson is guaranteed a payout of at least $754,798.

Eight players from Maryland—including three from Montgomery County—finished in the tournament's top 666, earning a payout of at least $19,227.
