Football Recap: QO, Watkins Mill Roll; Gaithersburg Falls Short

Quince Orchard and Watkins Mill earn decisive victories Friday while Gaithersburg falls a point short against Clarksburg.

Gaithersburg-area high school football teams wrapped up a successful week on the gridiron, winning two of three Friday night match ups. Unfortunately the lone loss came with some drama and heartbreak.

Clarksburg 13-Gaithersburg 12

Trailing 13-6 in the fourth quarter, Gaithersburg High School running back Solomon Vault took off for a 52-yard touchdown run to cut the Trojan deficit to 1 point against Clarksburg.

Trojan head coach Kreg Kephart elected to go for the two point conversion and a one point lead rather than attempt a game-tying extra point. Gaithersburg's pass attempt failed and the Coyotes held on for the win, Clarksburg's first since Oct. 14, 2011.

Quince Orchard 46-Whitman 3

Quince Orchard got off to a fast start, paced by two first half touchdowns apiece by running back Tyrell Williams and wide receiver D'Andre Johnson and the Cougars rolled over Bethesda's Whitman High School.

After taking a 33-3 lead into the half, the Cougars used two defensive touchdowns to cripple the Vikings chances for a comeback. Quince Orchard improved to 5-1 and avoided a two-game losing streak following its Week 5 loss to Seneca Valley.

Watkins Mill 48-Einstein 22

Watkins Mill improved to 4-2 with a dominating performance Friday at Einstein High School.

The Wolverines jumped out to a 21-7 first quarter lead on two touchdowns (1 rush, 1 pass) by quarterback Patrick Schlosser and a 27-yard run by running back Quinton Schaired.

Einstein would cut the lead to 7 points in the second quarter before surrendering 27 consecutive points to Watkins Mill.

Schlosser finished the game with 5 touchdowns (2 rush, 3 pass) and made 6 of 7 extra point attempts.
