Officer Brandon Day was recognized Wednesday as a "Smooth Operator Law Enforcement Officer" at the 15th Annual Smooth Operator luncheon held in Greenbelt, MD.

The Smooth Operator Program is a unique partnership of law enforcement, public safety officials and other experts in the Washington, DC, and Maryland. It is designed to combat aggressive driving and identify short- and long-term solutions.

Law enforcement agencies, trauma experts, government officials and other professionals work together to educate motorists about the risks involved with aggressive driving and combat aggressive driving behavior.

The 2012 program was conducted in four waves: June 3-9, June 29-July 7, Aug. 5-18 and Sept. 2-8.

Ten officers from the Gaithersburg Police Department participated in the program and issued 394 citations — 253 for speeding — and made seven criminal arrests during various sessions.
