This refutes the claim by the incumbents for the City Council election that crime is not an issue in Gaithersburg.

If you are elected to the city council in Nov, what would be your #1 inititive for crime in the City of Gaithersburg?

@tonic226: We must have a fully staffed department. At this point we do not. The beat system, which I support, cannot reach its potential with a short staffed department.

The second quarter of every year sees more crime than the first, because more people are outside. To compare, 2007vs, 2011:
Homicide was 0 now 1
Rape was 4, now 1
Robbery was 32 now 12
Agg. Assault was 22 now 16
Burglary was 75 now 49
Larceny was 418 now 353
Auto Theft was 45 now 23

Obiously one crime is one too many, but Gaithersburg is much safer now than it was 4 years ago.

Out on the campaign trail, people are expressing a good deal of concern about vandalism, thefts from homes and cars, and home break-ins.

Not suprised!! Maybe if the officers were more proactive in patroling the city and hit the neighborhoods instead of sitting car to car and talking for hours. I went into 7-11 last week and I thought that it was family renuion! Atleast 7-11 was safe!!
