Northwest Boys Basketball Coach Resigns

He leaves with a 36-36 overall record.

After three seasons at the helm of the Northwest High School boys basketball program, Jesse Irvin has resigned from his position as head coach.

The 35-year-old Damascus resident cited personal reasons for his departure.

“I want to spend more time with my family,” said Irvin, who compiled a 36-36 record during a three-year stint at the Germantown public school.

The busy basketball schedule this past season forced Irvin away from his family including a newborn son, Rylan, who is now eight months old.

“I want to spend more time with him,” said Irvin, who spent three years as an assistant at Seneca Valley before taking the head coaching position at Northwest.

The Jaguars completed the 2010-2011 campaign with a 10-12 overall record including 7-5 in the 4A West Division, good enough for a third place finish.

Although Irvin said he plans to take off next season, he would not rule out a return to coaching in the near future.

“You never know what life is going to bring you,” he said. “I still want to coach but family comes first.”
