On The Agenda: Funding For Aquatic Center Repairs and More
The Gaithersburg mayor and City Council will meet Monday night at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.
The Gaithersburg mayor and City Council are scheduled to vote Monday night on a resolution that could help fast track the re-opening of the Gaithersburg Aquatic Center.
The center — which is owned by Montgomery County Public Schools and operated by the city — has been closed since Jan. 25 due to cracks in perimeter wall support columns.
MCPS is responsible for building maintenance costs and has asked Gaithersburg to contribute, citing a lack of available funds that would keep the aquatic center closed for the forseeable future without city assistance, according to Gaithersburg documents.
The cost for construction is $600,000, and MCPS has asked Gaithersburg to contribute $300,000, according to the city.
Gaithersburg has sufficient funds in the Capital Improvements Budget and city "staff recommends participation in the project in the amount requested by MCPS," pending a vote of approval by the City Council.
