Teen Struck by Train

Trains are now running in both directions at Oakmont Avenue.

 

Afternoon Update

Montgomery County Police issued the following statement about this incident.

The preliminary investigation determined that the 17-year-old male was walking next to the tracks with earbuds in his ears, listening to music. He did not hear the train blow its horn and was struck by the train. He remained conscious and alert while Fire/Rescue personnel transported him to a local hospital, where he was determined to have non-life threatening injuries.

During the investigation, both sets of CSX rails and the vehicle crossing on Oakmont Avenue were closed.

Update 10 a.m.

The Maryland Transit Administration has confirmed trains are now running in both directions through Gaithersburg.

An MTA spokeswoman also confirmed the train that struck a man earlier Friday morning was not a MARC train.

Update, 9:20 a.m.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue confirmed a male was struck by a train this morning.

Capt. Oscar Garcia said emergency responders were dispatched to the scene at 8:32 a.m.

The man suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries. He has been transported to the hospital. Garcia said the department has received conflicting reports about the man's age.

Trains are still stopped in both directions pending the police investigation of the incident.

A person has been has been hit by a train in Gaithersburg at Oakmont Avenue, Montgomery County Police have confirmed.

Police did not know if the person was a man or a woman or if he or she has survived.

Train service has been temporarily stopped in both directions.

I wish these news articles would quit claiming the Trains are hitting pedestrians. These trespassers are jumping in front of the trains, and cause a lot of hardship for the hard working people involved in the incident. Please find a less selfish way to make it into the news.

I'm sorry I must have missed where the train swerved off track to hit the kid. I was unaware they do that.
