According to Veterinary Pet Insurance Co (VPI) and Petfinder.com, a roundup of the most popular pet names in 2011 saw a new top name for cats, although the trend to use traditionally human names continues.
The top 5 cat names in 2011 were Bella (new winner), Max, Chloe, Oliver and Lucy. Rounding out the top 10 were Shadow, Smokey, Tiger, Charlie and Tigger.
So while human names rule the roost for dogs, there are still lots of traditional "animal" names in the cat world.
Take our poll, add your cat's name in the comments if it did not make the list, and most importantly, post a photo of that kitty!

Had many beloved cats and many names, some I can remember: Esme, Permit, Tut, Demon, Whitey, Bitchcat, Butchie, Trixie and Lily. Those were the good names, the rest I used for my kids.

Sadly, we don't currently have a cat. Our most recent was named Ginger, and the ones before that were Tigris and Euprates--my favorite cat names. They were sisters and double trouble but lots of fun.

My cat's name is Merrin -- a name I made up so I know no other cat has that name! Her brother's name was Terrence; he came to us with that name and we thought it was cute. We have also had a Merlin.

My former cats Goldie and Silver were eighteen and seventeen years old when they passed away. Now we have two strays that we took in, Snowflake who is all white with a blue eye and a yellow eye, and Slinky a silver tabby who is the strangest cat I've ever had!
