Drivers approaching Olde Town Gaithersburg from Olde Town Avenue must turn right on to South Summit and there is no access to the road from East Diamond Avenue and North Summit Avenue.

One of two police officers on scene, Sgt. Beth Quinlan said the area has been closed since approximately 11 a.m. and there is no timetable for the closed portion of South Summit to reopen. Police are awaiting the arrival of CSX officials to repair the warning arms, Quinlan said.

As of 12:15 p.m. there was no significant traffic in the Olde Town area resulting from the partial closure of South Summit.

Police are encouraging pedestrians to avoid walking on the tracks, but Quinlan said they can cross at the Gaithersburg Community Museum.
