Report: Giordano Sued Over Insurance Policy on Missing Woman
AMEX Assurance Company seeks to void Gary Giordano's $1.5 million accidental death or dismemberment coverage policy on Robyn Gardner, The Washington Examiner reports.
After filing suit in June to cash in on the insurance policy taken out on missing North Bethesda woman Robyn Gardner, Gary Giordano is being sued by his insurers, who hope to void the policy all together, The Washington Examiner reported.
Giordano, of Gaithersburg, was held in Aruba last year in the disappearance of Gardner, his vacation partner. Shortly before the trip, Giordano purchased an insurance policy from AMEX Assurance Company, which included $1.5 million in accidental death or dismemberment coverage on Gardner's life, the Examiner reported.
AMEX Assurance Company filed a lawsuit last week in Greenbelt, MD, hoping to void Giordano's policy, asking for "a declaration that no valid claim could be made for death benefits pertaining to Gardner, and it alternatively asks for damages from Giordano for fraud and/or negligent misrepresentations in documents involving the policy," according to the report.
The life insurance policy drew suspicion immediately following Gardner's disappearance, but Giordano has maintained his innocence, telling officials in Aurba that Gardner disappeared while snorkeling.
The two had been vacationing together on the Carribbean island.
