Yes, it is proper to be respectful of all races and creeds, but what do you do when one race lacks the proper values. I believe that it is on right to point it out and educate them. You (Patch) should not censor the facts.....

I am a young black woman, and where I come we didn't fight or use weapons. I don't know what values my parents taught that these people's parents allegedly did not, but don't be ignorant. Their skin color has nothing to do with it.

Every bar that hosted "rappet karaoke" that ive known have ended in major fights..smh should be red flag from now on ,and it always just happen when place is filled with blk ppl, not because the skin color, but just happen to be that way 100% of the time

I watched reports on this on three different stations. They showed dozens of people that night, and yes they were mostly black with some hispanics. No, this does not mean all of a particular race is like this, but certain events draw certain people. This event is sad, but what is even more upsetting is just what has happened to Muddy Branch/Gaithersburg in general.

It all comes down to the people that come to these events, no matter what race. They don't know how to act! Maybe better security to bounce those troublemakers out and be escorted by the police.

I worked at a bar in Gaithersburg and it's ALWAYS girls that start the huge fights over guys ... girls are so silly - The guy is cheating on both of you that think he is "your man" - He doesn't care he's just gonna hit it and quit you. Seriously, I respect your opinions and welcome this conversation about crime in your neighborhood, however regardless of you familiarity with one race or another, this story isn't about race - it's about a bar fight that got out of control.

The real question is— if a restaurant holds a special event they know will attract a large crowd, should they be responsible for the security and are they on the hook if something goes wrong.

And, the other question is how many of the people were minors -- and this brings us back to the debate about the county move to have a curfew.

My comment got deleted so here is the summary. How can we feel safe around African Americans, when stuff like this is so pervasive and commonly associated with areas and events tailored towards the African American audience.

So Patch basically just copies and pastes the police press release? I thought that this was an online newspaper? How about sending a reporter to the scene? How about going there the next day and asking people what the crowd looked like?

The bottom line here is that the mainly fatherless youth every where are out of control! There is a serious lack of moral values and mob mentality at work here. Give that some reflection along with the fact that many of you so called adults are bickering like children yourselves. It takes a village to raise a child and they are lucky if they have one parent around, and if I might add that said parent instills any values.

I have been a manager at several restaurants/bars in Gaithersburg. We have held multiple large events at those locations. Rap is a genre of music that is followed by a very large percentage of African Americans, its that simple, and nothing is wrong with that. Its up to the owner and managers of the establishment to insure that saftey of their customers is the # 1 priority. 5 security guards is a joke. When I have been involved in planning an very large event, knowing that there is a good possibility that there is going to be a few that will try to disrupt and ruin the event I have hired off duty police officers plus my entire security staff. And yes there were incidents, but were defused quickly and the subjects removed from the event. Also the owners/manager need to notify the Gaithersburg City and Montgomery County Police and let them know about the event, so they know to increase patrols in the area. So this event was a rap contest your probably going to get a majority of African Americans, if it was a counrty contest your probably going to get a majority of whites, salsa contest hispanic and so on. Its a owner/management problem. You have to spend money to make money. Don't skimp on having the correct amount of security on hand. Lets all stop pointing fingers and each other and just relax and enjoy the music. Any music. God Bless All..

I'm really disappointed in the line of comments on this article. Some people in a bar became unruly and started a fight -- period. What does it matter what color they were? Let's point our fingers at the *perpetrators* of the crime, not the entire race(s) that those perpetrators came from.

Cat, Sorry you are disappointed with my comments. I really shouldn't matter what color they were, but you have to realize this is the world we live in today. To be honest if I were the owner or the manager of the Red Rock I would have never held an event of this nature. Why? History. When you bring in people from different parts of the area with a Rap Contest your bound to get people from different gangs to attend. Gangs if your not aware have cost taxpayers billions of dollars, arresting, going to trial, jail ( which last I heard costs us 80,000 per year to house an inmate) injury to innocent people, businesse to close (Perfect example Red Rock) Gangs have no respect for anyone but themselves. And if you think there were no gangs at this event you are highly mistaken. Gangs don't play well together, so why encourage an event that is going to bring that element to your establishment. It sucks but that is the way of the world these days. Until we, the government, stop slapping anyone ( white, black, hispanic, asian) who commits a crime on the wrist and really punish them its not going to stop. So Cat wake up and smell the coffee. Its a f_ _ ked up world we live in and its only getting worse. I can go all day on this subject.

That we use the word "race" with these incidents is a reaction to leftist cultural engineering. It is a dumbed down defensiveness, a utility given minorities to shift blame from behavior to race. Behavior is a choice and genetics you can do nothing about.

The violence is about behavior, not genetics. Race or genetics are used to excuse bad behavior. If you are from an enclave of a violent or disturbed culture, like a childish tantrum, you can turn the arguments identifying your behavior into shaming others. This is done by calling them racist and by so doing even you can be empowered appearing to win simply by the shock of shame when people are presumed racist for evaluating a crowd's typical behavior.
