Speak Out: Tell Us Your Choice for Maryland Governor's Race

It's a no-go for Franchot. Who should step in?

Comptroller Peter Franchot, who was expected to run for governor in 2014, announced Tuesday he would not seek the post.

Franchot, whose criticism of Gov. Martin O’Malley led many to believe he would run, instead announced he would seek to retain his current position.

But just because Franchot won’t run, doesn’t mean there won’t be a crowded primary field.

Other Democrats who may seek the office include Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, Del. Heather Mizeur, Attorney General Doug Gansler and Howard County Executive Ken Ulman.

What Democrat would you like to see make a run for the state’s top office? Tell us why in comments.

I will be glad to see Martin "The Taxman" O'Malley go and I hope with all my heart that Ken Ulman doesn't run and win. He makes President Obama look conservative. He is over the top with his liberal policies, now we can't buy a soda on county property and that is just the tip of the iceberg. I would like to see Daniel Bongino run. I think he would be an asset when it comes to our out of control spending in this state.

Thank God Owe Malley is going. Ulman is just as bad.

It's great that O'Malley is leaving. I don't really see a good candidate from the ones mentioned above that strikes a chord. I agree with those who say Ulman would be a disaster. If there is somebody out there that seems level headed and not too far left or right......then to me that would be a good choice. Sadly those types are getting harder to find.

Gansler is good. Also Roger Berliner, Al Carr, Rich Madaleno, Brian Frosh - we have exceptionally good public servants in Montgomery County.

How about Patch pretends it's a journalism outfit and writes profiles on the candidates or potential candidates with a few facts rather than give us another pointless, space-filling poll?

With state spending out of control perhaps it is time to consider a Republican as Maryland's next Governor. The GOP has numerous candidates that could become a viable in next years Governor race. Meyer Marks a Goverment Affairs Consultant from Bethesda is expected to announce soon. www.meyermarks.org

"Out of control spending" seems to be the GOP's meme du jour.
Better irrelevant arguments, please.
