Two Kentlands Salons Struck By Armed Robberies

The robberies happened just days apart.

For the second time in two weeks, a hair salon on Main Street in the Kentlands has been robbed at gunpoint.

Last night at approximately 8pm, Gaithersburg City and Montgomery County officers were called to Salon G at 316 Main Street for the report of a robbery, police said.

A masked man entered the salon just as it was closing, approached an employee and demanded cash, police report. The suspect then ordered the employee to the bathroom, put a gun to her head and touched her inappropriately.

The suspect then left out the back door towards Whole Foods Market, police said.

Just days prior, on Jan. 18, O'Hair Salon and Spa at 424 Main Street was robbed as well.

At around 7:50, just prior to closing, a masked suspect entered the salon and demanded cash, police said.

The suspect took the cash and ran, police said.

According to police, the suspect in both of these robberies is described as a black male, approximately 30 years old, 5’08” to 6’00” tall, and approximately 160 to 180 pounds.

Anyone with information about the suspect and/or robberies is asked to call the Robbery Section at 240-773-5100.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or 240-773-TIPS (8477).  Crime Solvers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information provided to them that leads to the arrest and/or indictment of the persons responsible for this felony crime.  Anonymous tips can also be provided by typing “MCPD” plus the tip on a cell phone or PDA and texting it to 274637 (CRIMES).

Bobbie, there is supposed to be some sort of 'community/civic' meeting in Kentlands. But I forget where exactly I read that; so can't provide you time and place. Believe I might have read it in today's Gazette. I will check for you!
Excerpt from Gazette article: The Kentlands community is working to organize a town hall meeting with Gaithersburg officials to address incidents, said Jim Hubbard, of Kentlands Neighborhood Watch. He described commercial robberies in the Kentlands as “extremely uncommon.” http://www.gazette.net/article/20120201/NEWS/702019511/1007/two-hair-salon-robberies-in-the-kentlands-may-be-linked-police-say&template=gazette

Hope there were working cameras in the shop. A local Deli in my neighborhood has 8 cameras and 2 guns. Smart fellow.
