VIDEO: Karate Dojo Raising Money To Send Students to Nationals

The PKD Karate Dojo has been training kids as young as four to compete, and they need the community's help to put them over the top.

Dedication to training can take you far, but for some kids in Gaithersburg, it will also take the generosity of the community to get them to Texas.

At Pugarita Karate-Do, or PKD for short, there are 17 students who have plans to travel to Arlington, TX for the National Karate Championships on July 14.

Some of them are as young as four years old. One student—a black belt—is the returning 2009 national champion.

But because the multi-day trip is so expensive, many of the students cannot afford to pay for the whole excursion on their own.

That's why PKD owner David Abraham and parents of PKD students have been fundraising for the past several months. They have held raffles, bingo tournaments and food sales.

So far the group has raised about four thousand dollars, but still needs to raise several thousand more.

For more information on how to donate, contact PKD at their website.
