WATCH: Is the National Zoo Panda Pregnant?

The Smithsonian's National Zoo announced earlier this week that a female panda was showing higher levels of progesterone, so is she pregnant?

Will the Smithsonian's National Zoo be welcoming a furry new friend to its inhabitants?

Female giant panda Mei Xiang has a high level of progesterone in her urine, and although it's not an absolute sign, there's a possibility she's pregnant, zoo officials said.

Mei Xiang was artificially inseminated earlier this spring with sperm from Tian Tian, a giant male panda. The zoo's veterinarians are keeping a watchful eye on her and trying to evaluate whether or not there is a fetus.

According to officials, it may be too early to detect.

But the curious can watch Mei Xiang's progress on a webcam.
