The Domestic Violence Coordinating Council of Montgomery County, Maryland in collaboration with Verizon Wireless, Montgomery College and numerous Montgomery County agencies and community organizations invite you to attend the
4th Annual Choose Respect Montgomery Teen Dating Conference
A FREE and FUN event for students in grades 6-12, their parents and youth service providers.
One in three teens in the U.S. is a victim of physical, sexual, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner--this number far exceeds rates of other types of youth violence, and nearly 1.5 million high school students nationwide experience physical abuse from a dating partner in a single year.
And yet, we continue to ignore the signs, we believe that real abuse is only physical, we excuse abusive behavior believing it won't happen again, we believe that excessive texting and monitoring of behavior is sweet, and we believe that if a friend is in trouble they will ask for help.
Move Beyond the Myths!
Learn how to recognize all types of abuse, learn how to advocate for yourself, how to be there to support your friends and family, and how to stop controlling behavior before it goes too far.
