“It is the most the wonderful time of the year”, and that is especially true when it come to NYC which dresses up in its best and most extravagant attire during the holiday season. Take a stroll on 5th Ave and get dazzled by the beauty of utter design and creativity of the holiday windows décor. The display windows of Bergdorf Goodman ooze in sophistication and style! Statues of white peacocks, grand pianos and cellos hung upside down, white poodles figurines paddling on bicycles adorn the latest fashion the season has to offer, all to mesmerize the audience by premier designers haute couture. At Macy's people line up to see the playful display windows that take us back in time and into a magical journey of dancing nutcrackers, ballerinas and little skaters statuettes skating joyfully in Central park resembling something of a child's dream. Looking up one reads the word “Believe” in banners that spread as far as the eye can see and with this, one cannot help but be transported by all the visuals to a very happy and magical place. The aromas of roasted chestnuts, caramelized pecans and of course on every street corner freshly cut pine Christmas trees' smell fills the air. With all the holiday festivity ambiance Billy Joel's song comes to mind, and definitely puts one in a “New York State of Mind”!
All this holiday celebration mode brings us back to the roots of the holiday season and more specifically to the holy city of Jerusalem. Speaking of which since mid November, two of my paintings “The Holy City” and “Jerusalem” are currently on display in a cultural exhibition at the United Nations General Assembly building which is in its own an amazing wonder of architecture. The paintings are at the North-East Gallery of the Visitors Lobby. The painting “The Holy City” depicts the holy sights of the historic city of Jerusalem, and the other painting titled “Jerusalem” is in the permanent collection and currently on loan from The Jerusalem Fund, Washington D.C.
The cultural exhibit is open and free to the public during UN hours. The exhibit is till January 2, 2013 at the Visitors Lobby, North East Gallery.
