Learn what’s happening in our own Montgomery Village community at a program presented by the Watkins Mill HS PTSA.
Representatives from our community will inform us of projects, construction, initiatives, events, etc. that are happening in Montgomery Village. We will have a community panel, including State Senator Nancy King; Bob Hydorn, president of the Montgomery Village Foundation board of directors; an officer from the Montgomery County Police Department's 6th District; and others who will speak on what's going on in the Village. There will also be a Q&A session. All are welcome!

"Oh joy! I was overwhelmed with pleasure at seeing the omnipotent, and omniscient authorities from Montgomery Village, that have placed salt licks out to please and placate the lovely deer that pervade our neighborhoods, generously helping themselves to our costly ornamentals, all the while serving as vectors for Lime Disease, and contributing to the numerous auto-deer crashes that occur at an average of more than one a day in Montgomery County.
Hey, Mr. Hydorn, we don't want the deer. Get rid of the salt licks."

Well I sure would like ot know where these salt licks are? The deer are constantly eating our plants and shrubs. I have now started to put out products that can be purchased to drive the deer away. Yes I am doing that and will continue. So if you don't know what you are talking about maybe do some research prior to posting such.

The salt lick is located in the rear of the 20,000 block of Beaver Ridge Road. If one drives to the circle at the end of the road, then proceeds on foot along the paved path, turning right towards the Goshen Oaks Shopping center, they will see the salt lick off to their right.
The salt lick is large and hard to miss. It is just inside the edge of the wooded area.

The Salt Lick has been removed, permanently I hope.
Thanks to whoever removed it.

"So if you don't know what you are talking about maybe do some research prior to posting such". Say Bob Hydorn
Ouch...Maybe if the Board would get off of the entrance of MV and see other parts of the village, maybe, just maybe, they'll see the plight of the village and fix it..
I know, I'm asking too much...

Just read your comment, MD. Thank you for the 'truth' of your statement! Glad to hear, after all these years, I have not been hallucinating or exaggerating when it comes to my frustration and concern regarding the 'real heart and soul' of the village being so darn neglected...the communities in which we live! Bless you! At least there are 'two' of us who notice.

I found the public meeting hosted by Watkins Mill High School PTSA was useful.
However, in a jolting act of incivility, a participant marred the meeting by accusing South Valley questioners of hijacking the meeting.
Some of the questions he appeared to be objecting to focused on:
1. The misleading title and synopsis in the MVF Bond Bill application for the restroom and concession stand in South Valley Park that was listed as “design and construction of the Montgomery Village South Valley Park”.
2. The last minute misdirection of the grant of $125,000 to MVSA not the applicant, MVF.
3. Senator Kings' announced intention to lean on MVF anyway to supply the matching $125,000 funds by forming an MVF/MVSA partnership.
Just who is running Montgomery Village?

Don, I assure you that the MVF Board is running our Village.

What has happened to the State grant for the restrooms in South Valley Park. They would be nice to have there when I attend the Sunday evening concerts.

The $125,000 in State funds have been earmarked for the Montgomery Village Sports Association (MVSA) for the South Valley Restroom and Concession Stand. However, the project has not been finalized.
MVA is considered unsuitable as a grantee because it does not own property and doesn't possess the resources and wherewithal to pay its $125,000 share of the project and manage the project. In short, the MVSA is a free rider.
The Montgomery Village Foundation (MVF) and MVSA are attempting to attempting to structure two Memoranda of Understanding whereby MVF finances the community share, manages the project, and supplies indemnification for MVSA in the event of lawsuits stemming from usage of the facility.
This last part on indemnification is troubling for Village residents since MVSA could be sued and with this agreement would have MVF and its millions in community resources to fall back on. Simply put, this project has been unwanted by residents and now introduces risks to MVF that far exceed any benefits.
As for use of the restroom by Lawn Theatre Patrons, this is unlikely since MVSA is in control and the facility will be located far from from the Lawn Theatre, down behind the baseball backstop across the road from the elementary school, and most likely will be locked up and unavailable unless an MVSA sports event is taking place at the time.

Don,
Obviously you have not read the copy of the agenda item regarding the State Grant for the restrooms and concession in South Valley Park. I would suggest that you go on line to MVF.org, and read the Agenda item 7A-3 in the Board packet for this Thursday evenings meeting. It will clearly straighten out the misconceptions that you have regarding the MOU (Memo of Understanding) between the MVF and MVSA.
