Registration for area breast cancer walk now open

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk holds kickoff event
Individual and team registration is now open for the 3rd annual American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Event that will take place on Sunday, October 20th at 10:00 a.m. in Watkins Park located off Route 27 in Mount Airy. The event kickoff was held on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Century Ford in Mount Airy to provide the community with information about the upcoming three mile fundraising walk.  The kickoff event included presentations by several breast cancer survivors and motivational speeches by individuals whose lives have been touched by cancer. Mt. Airy Mayor Pat Rockinberg served as the event emcee.  Attendees learned ways to participate and support this local breast cancer fundraising event.

Details about how to register as an individual or team or make donations to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer are posted on the event website-  www.MakingStridesWalk.org/MountAiryMD . Event proceeds benefits the American Cancer Society.

The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk is the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the nation uniting nearly 300 communities to finish the fight.  Event proceeds helps to fund breast cancer research to prevent, treat, and cure the disease.  Every dollar raised helps the American Cancer Society ensure access to mammograms for women who need them as well as provide support to people facing breast cancer.

Last year, approximately 900 walkers from Carroll, Frederick, Howard, Montgomery Counties and more participated in the Strides Walk and raised $85,000 for the American Cancer Society.  For additional event details, contact Jen Burdette, 401-781-4316 option 3 or jen.burdette@cancer.org.
