SIUMC is dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls. The three honorees, who among them have been members of SIUMC for more than 75 years and exemplify the definition of “A Soroptimist”— a woman who is devoted to the highest ideals of friendship, understanding, service and human dignity.
Today, these women continue to serve on SIUMC’s Board of Directors and support annual Soroptimist award programs and SIUMC local/international projects that are currently underway, which include support to local food pantries, support to women and family homeless shelters, sponsorship of educational programs for people with disabilities and support for Human Trafficking Awareness programs. SIUMC also sponsors the Girls’ Club for middle school and high school girls providing mentorship and volunteer opportunities for the students.
Please mark your calendars and join us on March 30, 2013, when SIUMC will be celebrating its 50th Gala Luncheon/Fashion Show at the Holiday Inn Gaithersburg MD. This fashion show fundraiser is the key source of SIUMC funding for providing support to women and girls and other social programs that help underserved people in our community. It is a fun afternoon with chance raffle baskets, 50/50 and auction items along with great fashions and delicious food. Must be good, we’ve been successfully doing it for 50 years!
