After 100 wins, 5-year-old Mr. Fritz is retiring.

Mr. Fritz, a German shepherd owned by Edward Farrell of Potomac and Pat Walker of Springfield, Ill., was named the best of his breed last week at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York. He then finished third among the breeds in the herding group at the country’s top dog show, reports Gazette.Net.

Such a highly ranked competitor comes with quite a name: Grand Champion Wolf Creek Galaxy of Merivern is his formal name.

“His breeder’s family had a favorite uncle named Fritz and they named the dog after him,” Farrell told the website. “We changed it a little and call him Mr. Fritz.”

Mr. Fritz has had 100 group wins and 15 best-in-show awards at dog competitions.

In December, he won the herding group at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship in Florida.

The Westminster Kennel Club Show was early last week....so this story is at least NINE days old. When will Potomac Patch get a local editor again?

There used to be around 900 Patches. Last year 300 died due to lack of advertising/funding. I am glad we still have our Patches here. I have covered Westminster several years and it is rather difficult to discover local dogs and especially junior handlers.
