Acting City Manager Tony Tomasello heard the news of his city's ranking Monday afternoon.

"[It's] always an honor to be mentioned in these types of surveys," Tomasello told Patch. "The national exposure [and] recognition is something we really can’t buy. It’s also interesting that we are the only true municipality in Maryland to be named in the top 100."

Gaithersburg Mayor Sidney A. Katz credited the city's citizens and staff for earning the recognition of CNN Money.

“We’ve long believed Gaithersburg is a great place to live, work, learn, and play, but it’s gratifying to know when our efforts are recognized and validated by those outside of our community,” Katz said in a statement. “We could not have achieved this recognition without an active and involved citizenry and a dedicated staff.”

Gaithersburg also made the list in 2010, coming in at No. 25, in 2008, coming in at No. 29, and in 2005, coming in at No. 17.

There’s no shame in boasting. Tell us what you think makes Gaithersburg a great place to live?
