Gaithersburg Launches 2012 Holiday Giving Program

Gaithersburg's holiday giving program aims to help as many as 800 families in need of assistance during the holiday season.

With as many as 800 Gaithersburg families in need of assistance during the holiday season, the city of Gaithersburg is again coordinating a holiday giving program, hoping to make Thanksgiving and December holidays more joyous for all families, the city announced Wednesday.

The program is in conjunction with representatives from Calvary Pentecostal Ministries Church, the Gaithersburg Coalition of Providers, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and Grace United Methodist Church, and works with the countywide holiday giving program to ensure non-duplication of services.

Individuals, businesses, congregations and other groups can help by providing monetary contributions or Target gift cards in denominations of $10 and $20, according to the city.

The program is also looking for sponsors to “adopt” Gaithersburg families for Thanksgiving and/or the December holidays by providing food baskets at Thanksgiving and gifts for children in December.

As part of the holiday giving program, the city also will host two dinners at The Oaks at Olde Towne and Forest Oak Towers Apartments, two residential communities for older adults.
