Able to impress a panel of judges, a Gaithersburg guitarist has won himself a master class with Avenged Sevenfold guitarist Synester Gates.

Adam Dominguez was one of 10 finalists picked by a panel of judges in the second round after surviving round one, where they were ranked based on their social media buzz, according to the contest’s rules.

The contest was sponsored by Guitar Center and Schecter Guitars.

Dominguez flies out to Hollywood on Wednesday, according to The Gazette, the first to report this story. More than 1,500 submissions were made to the contest, the newspaper reports.

According to the official rules, the grand-prize winners will spend three days and two nights in Cali for the master class.

It should come as little surprise, though, that there is also a marketing hook: The fledgling musicians will also take home a Synyster Gates Special Schecter electric guitar worth $850 and what was described as an “Ernie Ball Grand Accessories Prize Package” worth $500.

Avenged Sevenfold is a rock band from Southern California. The band’s most recent album “Hail to the King” (2013) reached No. 1 several Billboard charts, including Top Digital, Top Hard Rock and The Billboard 200.
