Gaithersburg Seeks Members for Olde Towne Park Plaza Design Committee

City seeks three members to examine current cultural conditions and assess potential enhancements.

The City of Gaithersburg is seeking three interested residents, business owners or property owners within a one-half mile radius of Olde Towne Park Plaza to serve on a newly established Olde Towne Park Plaza Design Ad Hoc Committee.

The three members will join a representative of the Olde Towne Advisory Subcommittee, and staff from the City’s Public Works, Planning and Code and Parks, Recreation and Culture Departments on the seven-person committee to explore uses for the site at South Summit and East Diamond Avenues.

The Committee has been charged with reviewing information about existing site conditions and previous design plans, identifying current cultural activities at the site and assessing potential enhancements, considering nearby historic elements and the potential incorporation of the park into future adjacent developments, gathering input on potential improvements or modifications to the site, consulting with the Gaithersburg Police Department on safety and security issues, and assisting City staff with the development of a Request for Proposal to select a landscape architecture or similar firm to deliver a site design based on the Committee’s recommendations.

The committee will meet regularly, with work anticipated to be completed by the end of April 2015.

Appointment to the committee will be made by the Mayor and City Council.  Interested community members should submit a letter of interest and resume/biography to: Olde Towne Park Plaza Design Ad Hoc Committee, c/o Mayor Sidney Katz, 31 S. Summit Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD, 20877 or by e-mail to cityhall@gaithersburgmd.gov by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014.
