Last Chance: Register for the Kentlands/Lakelands 5K

Registration for the 19th Annual Kentlands/Lakelands 5K Run, Walk and Kids Fun Runs Sept. 1 will close on Tuesday, Aug. 28.

Whether you're young or old, fast or slow, in it to win it or simply for fun, online registration the 19th Annual Kentlands/Lakelands 5K Run, Walk and Kids Fun Runs will close on Tuesday, Aug. 28, according to the Kentlands Community Foundation.

Online registration is encouraged by the KCF as the number of participants in this year's Sept. 1 race is capped at 1,500. In 2011, more than 1,460 people ran in the 5K along with 350 kids who participated in the fun run.

“The idea of limiting the 5K event to 1,500 runners was based on a decision of the event committee after looking at a lot of different factors, including the definition of our course – things like the narrow nature of the roads, the high number of turns, and the challenge of positioning water stops to adequately serve the runners without jeopardizing the flow of runners by creating back-ups – these are all considerations, and safety is our major concern,” Race Director Steve Solbeck said in a statement.
