Patch Picks: Fall Parks

This time of year can be a beautiful sight - the changing leaves of gold, red, purple and orange. When I was little, my dad would rake the leaves into a big pile and my sister and I would jump in….this did not make him very happy, but we enjoyed it.

Who says you have to go to D.C. to check out the season changes. Did you know there are so many parks in Gaithersburg? There are. So many places to explore with your family, man’s best friend, your significant other or just you and a good book. Here are our “Patch” picks on local spots to watch the leaves change colors.

Green Park is a 13.7-acre park with many activities available for the entire family, including man’s best friend. Green Park is located in a neighborhood and it is very quiet and peaceful. The park includes swings, a tot lot, basketball courts, a tennis court, hike trails and a dog exercise area. It's a wonderful place for viewing all that autumn has to offer.

Duvall Park is another park that is situated in a quiet neighborhood near Old Towne Gaithersburg. It is located at the end of Holly Drive off of Gaither Street. Duvall Park is the perfect park to watch leaves changing since it has quite a few trees. Park features include: a volleyball net, basketball court, swings, a jungle gym and a tot-lot. This park is named for former Gaithersburg Mayor Merton Duvall.

I love Constitution Gardens because it has a gazebo. I find gazebos charming and relaxing. Constitution Gardens is a mixture of flowers and landscaping. Did you know this park is where the former Gaithersburg Public Library sat prior to it being destroyed by fire? The park features a garden, paths, benches and a gazebo.

Inspiration Park was dedicated by the City on Sept. 11, 2002 to those who gave their lives on 9/11/01. Situated next to Gaithersburg's Arts Barn and near the Kentlands Mansion, Inspiration Park has benches and tables to sit and rest, as well as a grassy field to relax or play catch. It is just a short walk from Inspiration Lake (a.k.a Kentlands Lake). Inspiration Park features include assorted trees, shrubs and perennials.

Get your walking shoes on and head on over to the Kentlands Lakes. This beautiful and massive lake is located in the heart of the Kentlands community. The park has hiking trails to take you on a journey of the Kentlands, all while seeing the beautiful changes of the season. Happy Trails!
