Gaithersburg hosted its annual Junior Detective Day at the Kentlands Mansion.

A number of new recruits were sworn into the Gaithersburg Police Department on Sunday.

The city of Gaithersburg hosted its annual Junior Detective Day at the Kentlands Mansion, welcoming kids and their families as they participated in some basic training and solved a staged crime.

City police officers helped participants make I.D. badges and get fingerprinted, learn about neighborhood safety, witness K-9 demonstrations, and explore an actual police car and motorcycle to see all the high tech equipment police officers use, according to a Gaithersburg news release.

Upon completion of the training sessions, Gaithersburg Police Chief Mark P. Sroka swore in the youngsters as 2013 Junior Detectives.
