Registration Open For 20th Annual Kentlands/Lakelands 5K

Registration for one of the Kentlands' flagship events—the annual Kentlands/Lakelands 5K—is open.

Scheduled for 8 a.m. Aug. 31, the 2013 event will mark the 20th annual run through the Gaithersburg neighborhoods.

The race will go on as scheduled, rain or shine, "however, the Race Committee reserves the right to cancel, post-pone or run the Race as an untimed 'fun run' due to severe weather, or other dangerous unforeseen race conditions without advanced notice," according to the registration website.

In 2012, the race course was changed slightly but still highlighted what the new urbanist communities have to offer.

"It basically goes through both communities and you’re seeing almost everything in both communities," race director Steve Solbeck said prior to last year's race. "Anywhere from the synagogue to the school to the community centers to even the downtown, the finish is going through the downtown area."
