Last Thursday's tornado, part of a package of thunderstorms that knocked out power to thousands of Marylanders, spread 17 miles across Montgomery County, NBC 4 reported.

Starting in North Potomac at 3:41 p.m., it made its way east to Burtonsville by 3:59, NBC4 reported.

“Combined with what we have from radar data in our office, we’re pretty convinced this one was a tornado. It’s just getting the details of how long the path was, how strong the winds were,” Christopher Strong, of the National Weather Service, told CBS Baltimore

Rockville saw some of the worst of the damage, CBS Baltimore reported, with about 14 trees into homes. The American Red Cross told the TV station that 35 county residents need temporary housing because of storm damage to their homes.

The storm was an EF-0, the lowest ranking for tornadoes.
