Second Rabid Raccoon Found In Gaithersburg Community

The animal was found last week in the East Deer Park neighborhood.

A second rabid raccoon has been found in Gaithersburg's East Deer Park neighborhood, according to a news release.

Gaithersburg Animal Control officers responded to a call on Tuesday, July 16, regarding a sick raccoon in a resident’s yard in the 100 block of East Deer Park Drive, the city said.

Test results confirmed the raccoon was infected with rabies.

A dead raccoon was also tested positive for rabies on June 27, in a resident’s yard in the 200 block of East Deer Park Drive.

Gaithersburg officials recommend anyone who's been in contact with the raccoon contact the Montgomery County Health Department immediately at 240-777-1755.

If a pet is suspected to have come across a raccoon in this area, contact Gaithersburg Animal Control at 301-258-6343.
