What You Need to Know About Metro For the Rest of the Year

Metro: Weekend track work gets holiday break

Good news: Metro will operates free of scheduled track work for most of this weekend, according to Metro's website.

Only the Green Line will undergo scheduled track work this weekend; free shuttle buses will replace Green Line trains between Greenbelt and College Park, according to Metro.

LOOKING AHEAD

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day:

Tuesday, Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve): Regular weekday service. The Metrorail system open at 5 a.m. and closes at midnight.

Wednesday, Dec. 25 (Christmas Day): Metrorail and Metrobus operate on Sunday schedules. The Metrorail system opens 7 a.m. and closes at midnight. MetroAccess subscription trips are cancelled. 

Weekend of Dec. 27–Dec. 29:

Red Line trains will run every 20 minutes between Shady Grove and Glenmont, with additional trains providing service every 10 minutes, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., between Shady Grove and Dupont Circle, and between Glenmont and Judiciary Square. 

Green Line service to Greenbelt Station will be reduced to every 20 to 24 minutes, but all other Green Line stations will have normal service. 

Trains on the Blue, Orange and Yellow lines will operate on a regular weekend schedule.

New Year's Eve and New Year's Day:

Tuesday, Dec. 31 (New Year’s Eve): Regular weekday service. The Metrorail system closes two hours later than normal (at 2 a.m.). Last train times vary by station; add two hours to weekday last train times. To check last train times for any station, visit wmata.com/stations.

Wednesday, Jan. 1 (New Year's Day): Metrorail and Metrobus operate on Sunday schedules. The Metrorail system opens at 7 a.m. and closes at midnight. MetroAccess subscription trips are cancelled.
