Multi Media Exhibit at Gaithersburg Activity Center Gallery

Senior Artists Alliance, Women’s Art Exchange Works Featured at Activity Center Gallery: The City of Gaithersburg, the Senior Artist Alliance and the Women’s Art Exchange present a multi media exhibit at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park. Exhibition dates are March 18 through May 15, 2011.  Viewing hours are Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

FROM CITY PRESS RELEASE: The Senior Artists Alliance is a group of more than 100 artists over 60 years old.  The group has been active for about ten years and has been exhibiting in venues throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area.  Members live and work locally, but a few reside as far away as Texas and Florida.

The artists come from a variety of professional backgrounds. Those who are retired architects have mastered the art of design and composition. The retired scientists and engineers know the properties of paint and the feasibility of working with metal, wood, stone, and clay. Retired doctors have left behind the ordeals of former patients; no-longer-practicing lawyers no longer worry about “billable hours;” the dentists already have the tools they need for precision; and the “stay- at-home-moms” have finished raising children. These newborn artists have retired to a second exciting life – one that keeps them vitally alive. They attend art classes at Montgomery College and elsewhere in Montgomery County. They have no time or regard for age-related illnesses or the fear of being wrong. Creativity intensifies and adds meaning to their lives.

The Women’s Art Exchange serves women artists and women interested in the visual arts.  The organization was formed to encourage women to explore their artistic potential in small, informal sharing and support groups and to provide a friendly atmosphere for self-expression.  The idea was born in December of 1978, and the first meeting was held on January 13, 1979.  In their 32 years, they have participated in many art exhibits locally. Meetings are held monthly from September through May"
