Gaithersburg Artists Take Talents to Glen Echo Park
Members of the Gaithersburg Fine Arts Association and the Friends of the Yellow Barn will show their work at the Yellow Barn Studio and Gallery at Glen Echo Park on May 19.
The Gaithersburg Fine Arts Association is having its last show of the year, "A Gathering of Artists" at the Yellow Barn Studio and Gallery at Glen Echo Park from Saturday, May 19 to Sunday, May 20.
The show is open to the public from noon to 5p.m. on both days, and a reception, where the public can meet the artists, will be held on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m.
The show features over 50 oil, acrylic and watercolor pieces by 19 GFAA artists who are also members of the Friends of the Yellow Barn, a nonprofit organization with over 700 current members supporting the art and community outreach programs of the Yellow Barn.
GFAA has over 80 members and was founded in 1970 to provide audience outreach and educational opportunities for local artists. The group held its first formal Yellow Barn show in 2009.
Sue Herron, GFAA founding member and current Yellow Barn watercolor instructor, has been instrumental in forging the connection between the Gaithersburg-based organization and the Glen Echo-based arts community. Other GFAA members, including Kathy Fleming, Jeanne Powell, Sandra Fritter, Susan Carelli and have been long-time students of the art faculty at the Yellow Barn. Yellow Barn Director Walt Bartman, Gallery Manager Jordan Bruns and various other Yellow Barn instructors have been guest speakers at GFAA functions.
Show participants include Angela Lacy; ; Arthur Kaufman; Betty Bryan; ; Catherine Fleming; ; ; Hang Nguyen; Jacqueline Detrick; Jeanne Powell; ; ; Pat Choquette; Pooja Campbell; Ruth Sentelle; ; Susan Carelli; and Ursula Dehejia.
GFAA is also holding its 26th Annual Juried Spring Show at Kentlands Mansion in Gaithersburg through May 20. The show is open for viewing by appointment only and features over 50 oil, acrylic, watercolor and mixed media pieces with award winners in each category.
The Glen Echo Park Parternship for Arts and Culture manages Glen Echo Park and all of its constituents, including the Yellow Barn, and works with the National Park Service and Montgomery County to produce public cultural events, including art classes, festivals, exhibitions, dances, children’s theater, music performances and nature programs.
