The city of Gaithersburg released the following news this week:

Arts Barn Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary

Originally posted by the city on Aug. 14, the event is finally here. , Gaithersburg’s premier cultural arts center, is holding its 10 Year Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Arts Barn at 311 Kent Square Road. The event is free to the public.

The celebration will feature a sampling of art classes, face painting, balloons, art and painting demonstrations, a silent auction of handmade artwork, strolling magicians, and giveaways. At 1:30 p.m. Mayor Sidney Katz and members of the City Council will cut an anniversary cake, followed by a musical performance of “The Wizard of Oz” at 2 p.m. in the theatre. Tickets for "The Wizard of Oz" can be purchased at the door.

Tickets Now On Sale for 6th Annual "Restore the Joy" Domestic Violence Empowerment Luncheon

Tickets are now available for the 6th Annual “Restore the Joy” Domestic Violence Empowerment Luncheon, hosted by Women Who Care Ministries, the Victims’ Rights Foundation, and the city of Gaithersburg. It will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Gaithersburg, 2 Montgomery Village Avenue.

The 2012 event, which offers messages of inspiration and hope along with vital resource information, will feature “Healing A Bruised Heart,” a keynote address by Sariah Beatty. Beatty, who is the Pastor of Restoration Ministries, has extensive experience in facilitating domestic violence workshops and teen dating seminars. A very powerful and well-known speaker, she leads conferences and speaks throughout the East Coast and internationally.

Experience the Art of the Singer Songwriter with Unique Concert Series

The City of Gaithersburg invites you to experience inspiring performances and explore your creativity with its Singer Songwriter Concert Series, proudly presented by O’Hair Salon + Spa. In addition to the concert experience, patrons can participate in special workshops with the artists for a unique insight into the world of the singer songwriter. Concerts and workshops will take place at the Arts Barn, 311 Kent Square Road and select workshops will also be held at , 320 Kent Square Road.

One event will take place each month beginning Sept. 29, 2012, and ending Feb. 27, 2013.
