The city of Gaithersburg released the following news this week:

Travel Over the Rainbow with The Wizard of Oz

In partnership with KAT 2nd Stage, the presents The Wizard of Oz featuring Academy Award-winning music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by E.Y. Harburg. The show runs Sept. 8-23, with performances on Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Admission is $18, $16 for city residents and $9 for children through grade 12. Artisan & Crafter Vendor Opportunities Available for 31st Annual Celebrate Gaithersburg Festival

The 31st annual Celebrate Gaithersburg in Olde Towne Festival will draw an entire community to Gaithersburg’s historic city center for a day of food, fun, entertainment and family activities. The city is still seeking local and international artisans and crafters who would like to sell unique jewelry, textiles, and one-of-a-kind hand crafted items. The last day for applications is Sept. 7, 2012.

The one-day event is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, and will include several stages of live entertainment, with the Smithereens headlining the day, a variety of local food trucks, and special zones geared for all ages and interests.
