Why Go: Skip the international flight and make your way to GMS this weekend, instead. Performances, food samples and other displays will showcase the cultures of the school's diverse, multicultural student body.

Why Go: Skip the mall and peruse the community yard sale at your own pace. You never know what treasures you may uncover!

Where/When: 255 Kentlands Blvd., Gaithersburg. Saturday, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Why Go: Lace up those sneakers and get one weekend work-out out of the way. The course snakes through Kentlands and the surrounding neighborhoods. The run/walk is open to anyone at any pace.

Pricing: Free to participate.

5. Come Fly Away

Where/When: The Kennedy Center, 2700 F St. NW, Washington, D.C. Shows start at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Matinee performances open at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Why Go: There's no need to travel all the way to the Big Apple to catch a Broadway show. Make your way to downtown D.C. instead. According to the Kennedy Center website, "Nominated for two 2010 Tony Awards including Best Choreography, 'Come Fly Away' is the new Broadway musical that brings together the legendary music of Frank Sinatra and the creative vision of Tony Award winner and Kennedy Center Honoree Twyla Tharp."

Pricing: Tickets range from $69 to $129.
