GFAA Members Show at the Yellow Barn

"A Gathering of Artists," a Gaithersburg Fine Arts Association exhibit will take place May 21-22 at the Yellow Barn Studio and Gallery in Glen Echo, Maryland.

Sixteen members of the Gaithersburg Fine Arts Association (GFAA) and the Friends of the Yellow Barn will be showing their work this weekend, May 21-22, at the Yellow Barn Studio and Gallery in Glen Echo.

Kathy Bush, Mak Dehejia, Ursula Dehejia, Jackie Detrick, Cathy Fleming, Sandra Fritter, Valthea Fry, John Hastie, Perry Kapsch, Angela Lacy, Hang Nguyen, Evelyn Philipps, Jeanne Powell, Anna Shuman, Estelle Zorman, and Susan Carelli will be displaying over 60 individual pieces of artwork in an exhibit called "A Gathering of Artists."

An opening reception will be held Saturday, May 21, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public during gallery hours, which are noon to 5:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday.

Unlike the GFAA show currently on view at Kentlands Mansion in Gaithersburg, the Yellow Barn show is not juried. Participants are both members of the GFAA and the Friends of the Yellow Barn.

"These shows are great for artists who have never shown before," said Jordan Bruns, Gallery Manager. "They often get put into group shows with veterans and learn the ropes."

The Yellow Barn Studio and Gallery hosts weekend shows nearly every weekend, providing opportunities for artists in and around the Washington, DC metropolitan area to display their work.

Yellow Barn membership provides access to a quarterly newsletter, discounts on select workshops, the opportunity to participate in the annual member's show and/or to have a one-person show at the gallery, the opportunity to display artwork on the gallery's online virtual gallery and invitations to shows of emerging artists and guest speaker events.

Several tiers of annual membership are available: Individual - $35; Dual - $60; Family - $85; Contributing - $100; Sustaining - $500.

Currently there are well over 450 members. Their support provides scholarships for Yellow Barn students and helps to sponsor community outreach events like the Annual Montgomery County High School Painting Exhibition. Some of the funds have also gone toward special events and renovating the studio and gallery space of the Yellow Barn.
