TV Actress from Germantown Does Charity Show in Gaithersburg

Kiersten Lyons -- who has appeared on 'Mad Men' and has a recurring role on 'The Neighbors' -- will perform 'Crushed' at The Arts Barn on Thursday and Friday; proceeds will go to Reece’s Rainbow

Television actress Kiersten Lyons, originally from Germantown, is bringing her one-woman show "Crushed" to Gaithersburg on Thursday and Friday to help raise money for a nonprofit that helps children with Down syndrome find adoptive homes, The Gazette reports.

Lyons will perform at The Arts Barn in Gaithersburg. Proceeds from Friday’s show will go to Reece’s Rainbow, an organization based in Gaithersburg, and two families who are adopting disabled children, according to The Gazette, which offers the full story on its website, Gazette.net.

Reece’s Rainbow is an advocacy group and foundation involved in helping orphaned children with Down syndrome find homes, according to the organization’s website, ReecesRainbow.org. The organization, which is not an adoption agency, was founded by Andrea Faris Roberts, whose son Reece has Down syndrome.

According to The Gazette, Roberts approached Lyons with the idea. Lyons has appeared on “Mad Men,” “Bones” and has had a recurring role in the ABC comedy, “The Neighbors.”

In describing the show, Lyons told the Gazette:

“[‘Crushed’ is] real life. It’s 100 percent based on my experiences as a very awkward girl growing up that looked like a boy,” Lyons says. “It tracks me through all of my former loves throughout the years and starts with my first crush, which was on a Han Solo action figure.

“The coolest thing about ‘Crushed’ is that about 75 percent of it takes place in Germantown.”

Lyons posted a Vimeo clip about the stage show on her tumblr page.
