Dick's Sporting Goods Suspends Some Gun Sales After Newtown Shooting

The company says it has "suspended the sale of modern sporting rifles in all of our stores chainwide."

"Modern sporting rifles" are off the shelves at Dick's Sporting Goods stores across the country only a few days after the tragic events at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.

Dick's Sporting Goods announced this statement to media Tuesday morning, according to The Huffington Post:

"Out of respect for the victims and their families, during this time of national mourning we have removed all guns from sale and from display in our store nearest to Newtown and suspended the sale of modern sporting rifles in all of our stores chainwide."

CNN reported that the decision comes in the midst of an investigation into whether the suspected gunman in the Newtown shooting, Adam Lanza, tried to buy a gun from a Dick's Sporting Goods store.

It is not clear how long the suspension of sales will last.
