Get caught up with the food scene in Montgomery County and adjacent Washington, DC, neighborhoods with "1 Meat, 3 Sides." This week, a new restaurant in Bethesda takes center plate:

One Meat:

4935 Bar and Kitchen, a new restaurant planned for the former Tragara space on Cordell Avenue in Bethesda, is expected to open its second floor this week for private parties. Many events already have been booked, according to general manager Bourke Floyd, Bethesda Patch reported.

The restaurant, which is expected to be open for full dinner service in January, will serve modern American food with some French and Indian influences.

"Our intention is not to be white tablecloth, fine dining, but to be sophisticated and fun at the same time," Floyd said.

Three Sides:

When chef Robert Wiedmaier opened his newest restaurant, Wildwood Kitchen in Bethesda, last month, he made five of his long-time employees part-owners, The Washington Post's Capital Business blog reported.

He drew key staff from his Mussel Bar in Bethesda and the popular Brasserie Beck and Marcel’s in Washington, DC, to become partners, Bethesda Patch reported.

"The fact that we are part-owners makes it so exciting," Moez Ben-Achour, sommelier at Marcel's, told Capital Business. "We grew up with Chef Robert."

If the lamb Bolognese at Silver Spring's 8407 Kitchen Bar doesn't taste quite the same these days, it's because the restaurant has parted ways with its executive chef, Bethesda Magazine reported.

Matamoros told Bethesda Magazine that he was fired earlier this month by the restaurant's owner Theo Margas, who said the chef was difficult to work with, according to Matamoros.

Celebrity chef Bryan Voltaggio's latest restaurant, Range—once slated to open in mid-September, likely will open in a few weeks at the Chevy Chase Pavilion, Chevy Chase Patch reported.

While the restaurant's opening date is not yet set, patrons may reserve a spot for a "pop-in preview" on Dec. 15, 16 or 17, The Washington Post reported. (Make reservations via the restaurant's website.)

Dessert:

Cupcake Blvd—a popular food truck selling cupcakes in Silver Spring—opens a store-front location later this month, Silver Spring Patch reported.

Owner Angelette Aviles gave away a lot of cupcakes on her way to discovering a passion and a talent.

"The next thing you know, I had strangers calling me. When strangers started calling, I said I have something here," Aviles added.
