State of the Art Cancer Treatment Center Opens in Gaithersburg

Mayor Sidney Katz declared Sept. 14 Cancer Center in Gaithersburg Day.

The Cancer Center at Gaithersburg is “committed to cancer” according to Dr. Anu Gupta.

Dr. Gupta, the Cancer Center at Gaithersburg's Executive Director, addressed the crowd on September 14 at the center's grand opening. “My staff and I are pleased to become a part of the community in Montgomery County where we will help patients in their fight against cancer,” said Gupta. She has treated more than 1,200 patients with a variety of cancers such as breast, prostate, colon and lung.

The Center will provide care by board certified oncologists and will accept all major insurance plans.

“The state-of-the-art, independent facility brings greater access and quality care to patients requiring radiation treatment in Gaithersburg and surrounding communities in Montgomery County. The Cancer Center at Gaithersburg offers two new treatment units for the delivery of state-of-the-art therapy. Both units offer Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)”, according to a press release.

County Executive Isiah “Ike” Leggett, who attended the ribbon cutting ceremony last week, said everyone knows someone affected by cancer. The County needs “state of art medicine” and one “will find at the Cancer Center,” he added

City of Gaithersburg Mayor Sidney Katz presented Dr. Gupta with a proclamation and declared September 14 as “Cancer Center at Gaithersburg Day.” Katz said “we are delighted you are here” and that they chose Gaithersburg as its home.

Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce Executive Director and cancer survivor Marilyn Balcombe said she was a “year out of treatment last Friday.”  Balcombe was joined by County Councilmember Nancy Floreen, who stated it has “…been six weeks” since she had completed her radiation therapy.
