Gaithersburg Chef Featured on Live TV

Chef Juan Blanco from Ay! Jalisco Tex-Mex Restaurant in Gaithersburg joined WUSA 9's JC Hayward Tuesday at noon to cook his Steak Ranchero Picante.

Gaithersburg's Ay! Jalisco Tex-Mex Restaurant's catering business has picked up a little extra publicity.

One of Ay! Jalisco's catering clients is WUSA 9's JC Hayward, and Hayward featured the Tex-Mex restaurant's executive chef Juan Blanco on her "Just Add Spice" segment Tuesday afternoon.

With two locations in Gaithersburg — 8401 Snouffer School Road and 425 South Frederick Avenue — Blanco brings 28 years of restaurant experience to Ay! Jalisco. It offers authentic Tex-Mex and Salvadoran food in a relaxed, festive environment.

For Hayward's segment, Blanco cooked his Steak Ranchero Picante with homemade sangria, guacamole, flan and fried plantains. 

The chef also shared his recipe for the dish, which according to WUSA 9, includes:

  • Cut New York Strip Steak into thin strips
  • Sautee strips with butter, oregano, black pepper, garlic, Ranchero sauce, and the Ay! Jalisco Steak Seasoning.
  • Cook New York Strip Steak half-way and then add onions, cilantro, tomatoes, green peppers, cerrano peppers, and hot peppers.
  • Serve with rice and beans
