What Do You Get from Yoga?

What Do You Get From Yoga? How does it work? Read this and deepen your understanding.

Yoga means to bring together, to yoke. It is called a mind/body exercise for a reason. By connecting to the body we connect with the mind. It might be better called Mind/Body/Heart. As I said before, anyone can do yoga.

The body holds every trauma we ever experienced and did not process in the moment. Our nervous systems are wired that way to protect us from doing the same thing again. As Carolyn Myss once said, your biology is your biography. My good non-yoga friend who claims a linear brain and works with numbers found this fascinating and odd. I have been doing yoga for years but now I do aerobics, every day. And anxiety is finding its way to the surface. This is not good or bad. It is not always comfortable but it passes.

We all hold anxiety, which is displaced emotion as fear. Fear keeps us alive. If we sat on grass and meditated dinosaurs would have stepped on us. And we'd be extinct. It is a great teacher. The best any of us can do is acknowledge the feeling let it pass through us. However, trauma is part of life and most everybody has some in their body. For me now aerobics addes to my lifestyle is bringing this to the surface.

Yoga grounds me when this happens. Yoga eases the nervous system, massages the internal organs, supports our bones and engages the muscles while strectching connective tissue. What does this mean?

It means from yoga you get a rest, a way to let go, a way to ease out of the chaos of family and work. Love is always imperfect. Yet yoga is a clear way of loving the self that continues to give. And the more you give yourself the more you have to give others. The body and mind and heart connect in a deeper way and serenity comes. Honest.
