It’s the last weekend of 2011. We do hope you are celebrating and enjoying the holidays with friends and family. Here are our picks for you and your family to enjoy this weekend in and around Gaithersburg. Happy New Year!!!

  • , Friday, Dec. 30, Saturday, Dec. 31 and Sunday, Jan. 1: This is the last weekend to catch the City of Gaithersburg’s Winter Lights Festival - a 3.5 mile drive through the enchanted setting of Seneca Creek State Park takes you past more than 380 illuminated displays and 60 animated vignettes. The park is located at 11950 Clopper Road, just a few miles west of the intersection with I-270.
  • , Friday, Dec. 30: Magicians Mark Phillips, Bob Sheets, Barry Wood, and Brian Curry invite you to join them at their exotic, strange and interactive, secret and very kooky Comedy & Magic Society performance. This is a family-friendly show, recommended for ages ten and up.
  • , Friday, Dec. 30: One (1) game of bowling and shoe rental and your choice of soft drinks, ice tea and an item from their set menu. $14.99 per person.

  • , Friday, Dec. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 31: Gaylord National's popular ICE! winter holiday attraction ICE! featuring DreamWorks' Merry Madagascar. Now to Jan. 8, the DreamWorks Animation holiday TV special will be brought to life in an interactive world of colorful ice sculptures carved entirely from two-million pounds of ice.   • , Friday, Dec. 30: See the National Zoo in a whole new light. Come to ZooLights and enjoy free admission. Create memories with loved ones while enjoying thousands of environmentally-friendly light displays, dancing trees, Panda Claws, seasonal food and drink, and live entertainment.

  • , Friday, Dec. 30 through Sunday, Jan. 1: The Hair Cuttery located at 14933 Shady Grove Road are collecting gently used coats, jackets, hats, scarves and mittens for “Krausey’s Koats” now through January 1.
  • , Friday, Dec. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 31: This year's holiday train display, sponsored by MTH Electric Trains and Amtrak, features O Gauge trains from the steam and modern eras. Every train uses state-of-the-art electronics to recreate the sounds, lights and smoke of their real-life counterparts.
