Guide: Hometown Holidays

Everything you need to know about this year's Hometown Holidays and Memorial Day Parade in Rockville.

 

Rockville marks the unofficial start of summer this weekend with Hometown Holidays and 69th Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade.

Hometown Holidays is in Rockville Town Center from Saturday, May 25 ending with the parade on Monday, May 27.

Music is the main focal point on Saturday and Sunday. And this year’s lineup showcases a couple of local artists who made it big.

Performers include rising country music star and Maryland native Shane Gamble—who was just added to the CMA Fest lineup in Nashville—performs Saturday night and Grammy nominated hip-hop artist Christylez Bacon, who represents Southeast.

Sunny Sweeny will close out Saturday night. The Waiting—a Tom Petty tribute band—headline Sunday.

There’s also The Taste of Rockville on Saturday and Sunday. For a few taste tickets, you can sample gourmet dishes from 20 area restaurants.

On Monday, the city will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony. This year’s marshal is U.S. Navy Lieutenant Junior Grade Steven R. Simmons, a native of Ohio.

The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. on Martins Lane and ends on East Montgomery Avenue.

Parade | 69th Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade

Grand Marshal: Lieutenant Junior Grade Steven R. Simmons, U.S. Navy

Emcee: Brian van de Graaff, weathercaster on weekday mornings for ABC7/WJLA and station News Channel 8

Schedule:

  • 9 a.m.—Performance at Town Square plaza. Rockville Concert Band and the Rockville Community Chorus. Directed by John Saint Amour.
  • 9:30 a.m. —American Legion Post 86 will lay a traditional wreath. The Legion Post will join the Rockville City Police Department Honor Guard in presenting the colors and firing a 21-gun salute. The ceremony will also include an address from Grand Marshal Lieutenant Junior Grade Steven R. Simmons, U.S. Navy.
  • 10:30 a.m. —The parade route begins on Martins Lane, turns south onto North Washington Street, then turns east onto Beall Avenue, south onto Maryland Avenue through Rockville Town Center and east onto East Montgomery Avenue.
