Metro Steps Up Security In Wake of Bin Laden's Death

Security hikes are precautionary measure, spokeswoman says.

Metro officials are stepping up security measures after the announcement that

President Barack Obama announced in a speech late Sunday evening that the terrorist and mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks was killed after a raid on his compound.

Metro riders can expect to see an increased presence of uniformed officers in the system, according to an announcement posted on Metro’s media line by spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein.

“Other security measures are designed to be invisible to the public,” Farbstein said.

Farbstein said the security hikes are a precautionary measure.

Metro is also urging vigilance and encouraging anyone who sees anything out of the ordinary to call Metro Transit Police at 202-962-2121.
