POTOMAC — Police believe that Sunday's shooting on Victory Lane in Potomac was not a random event. "Detectives spoke with the victim today and believe that the victim was targeted," Montgomery County police said.

GERMANTOWN — A 20-year-old male was shot but was not seriously injured following a shooting Wednesday night at Brandermill Drive and Drumcastle Terrace.

BETHESDA — Harris Teeter may be the grocery tenant at a planned mixed-used development at Wisconsin Avenue and Battery Lane, though developers and the grocery chain haven't confirmed the plan.

NFL Player Visits His Old Middle School

GERMANTOWN — Andre Smith may be lithe on the gridiron, but on Thursday, the Chicago Bears tight end found himself cornered by middle schoolers eager for his autograph — after all he used to be a Panther, just like them. Smith spoke and signed autographs at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, where he attended from 2000-02, according to school staff. Smith talked about how the death of his mother inspired him to take his education seriously and encouraged students to work hard.

GAITHERSBURG — A man was struck by a train near Oakmont Avenue on Friday morning. He was transported to the hospital and suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

COLESVILLE — Four computer science students at Springbrook High School were the only high school team to make it to Microsoft Imagine Cup's national finals. Now the young men, who designed a Japanese earthquake-themed game, are re-tooling their submission in hopes of making it to the global competition in Sydney, Australia.

CHEVY CHASE — The Pittsburgh-inspired eatery in Chevy Chase, Washington, DC, celebrates its first anniversary with praise from both local diners and top food critics.

WHEATON — The Montgomery County Council approved a Wheaton redevelopment plan for the county budget in a straw vote earlier this week, but the council's decision upset many people in Wheaton who had supported a proposal backed by the county executive.
